Logistics data licensing: inventory decisions and exceptions
By Automati · Updated
A logistics inventory can describe how a team quotes, coordinates and resolves exceptions. Start with the decisions and outcomes retained across your systems, rather than assuming a tracking feed or shipment count alone establishes a licensing opportunity.
An illustrative delivery exception
A shipment cannot be delivered as planned. The team investigates the constraint, considers an alternative, coordinates with a supplier and records the resolution. A status field might show only ‘delivered’; the operating history may explain the decision.
This example is invented and illustrates an inventory method. It does not describe an Automati transaction or a confirmed buyer requirement.
Separate a workflow record from a data feed
Different datasets serve different purposes. A live location feed, a customer contact list and an internal exception-resolution record should not be described as interchangeable. Name the category and intended scope clearly.
| Record category | Question for the inventory |
|---|---|
| Quote revisions | Are assumptions and changes retained alongside the quote? |
| Supplier coordination | Which parts were created internally and which came from others? |
| Delivery exceptions | Can the initial issue, decisions and final resolution be related? |
| Procedures | Are the working instructions and their revisions available? |
| Tracking and location data | Does the proposed use require this category at all, and what restrictions need review? |
Check where the history actually lives
A transport-management system might retain operational fields while the decision history sits in email or a separate support tool. Write down the sources, accessible dates and languages. Note system migrations and missing periods instead of presenting the company’s age as the archive’s age.
Do not promise a complete connected dataset before checking with the people who administer the systems. The initial review can proceed with honest unknowns.
Keep customers and counterparties out of the initial description
Customer records, precise location data, personal details and carrier or supplier terms can introduce separate questions. Use role names and high-level categories in the first inventory. The actual rights and handling questions should be resolved with the buyer and your advisers before sharing.
Automati asks what exists; it does not need a real shipment file or access to a tracking account to begin a conversation. Your company chooses whether to permit a later buyer introduction.
Automati is an independent referrer and may receive a referral fee if a deal completes. Buyers decide fit and any offer. This guide helps prepare questions; it does not determine rights, eligibility or a dataset’s price.
